The night before my kids go back to school and it will begin as a remote/virtual school year. There are apps and zooms with passwords and log ins to connect. I have done my best to set up spaces for my children to learn. I’ve organized and posted their schedules. I’ve created shortcuts on google for ease of logins. But inevitably something will glitch or my strategies will have to be adjusted. And you know what, that’s ok. I am planning for it, expecting it and I will adjust because this is the time we live in. But let me share why I am confident we can weather this storm.
Back in March when our court was learning the ins and outs of holding court by zoom and streaming on YouTube- there was a learning curve. We attended one zoom training after another. I poured over new rules coming down for the judiciary and the county. There were countless hours having team meetings to practice what we learned. But eventually things became more fluid, less glitchy. We got better at trouble shooting and using technology with more ease. Our 3 times a week meetings widdled down to 1, because we didn’t need to do technical training anymore.
So here are my thoughts educators and parents- it is the same here. This is new and it will take a little time to work out the glitches but before you know it, there will be more ease and consistency.
My best advice is this- remember this is unprecedented and it’s ok if we falter along the way to the other side. It’s ok to have technical difficulties. Just breathe and be patient. Don’t get flustered, it is going to be okay. I thank you educators and administrators for your dedication to the children. I know you too have spent countless hours learning how to do your job in a whole different environment. I pray for you, the children and their parents who are all learning to be #resilient.
